While working in her Petaluma studio setting up for the Memoirs show, Isabelle could not help notice the long sculptural lines of the dried fennel plant growing meters tall along the bank of the Petaluma river by the studio building. She foraged a few branches that spoke to her. Their structure, elegance and simplicity appealed to her and decided to use them on her long wood panels she had on hand. In their nature they sort of blend with the rest of the foliage, so much so that unless you are seeking them, you may not notice them. And so, she sought to make their essence prominent and bold with black textured base and a gold metal leaf application.
