Milkweed is part of The Nature of This body of work, which focuses on the immediate environmental surroundings in my present. This collection was first created upon my arrival in Northern Virginia. It begins by encompassing the nature that I experience while riding my mare Lola on the terrain of this beautiful place. The series is a collection of mostly 30” X 40” stretched canvas paintings, accompanied by smaller painted studies on paper, mounted on wood panels. I use charcoal and a mixed bag of oil-based paints, pastels, and cold wax to produce my work. My subject matter revolves around rich, bold shapes created in a heavily textured and layered manner, composed in a simple yet rich, moody setting of mostly obscure negative space. Milkweed is a perfect example of this aesthetic.
